RULES ========== 1) Don't do anything illegal. That means don't do anything that could possibly involve me or yourself in a law suit, fines, jail time and/or government agents in black suites. 2) Do not download files any greater that 1 Mb from the server. This is because I use the server for my business and I enjoy being able to use the server over ssh without lag. However, if you are connected via dialup, this rule really doesn't apply to you since dialup doesn't use that much bandwidth. Please don't put files larger than 1 Mb in a web accessible directory. NOTE: You may download files of any size from the server between the times of 11:00pm and 7:00am MST (Mountain Standard Time). Note that none of these rules apply to uploading to the server; you may upload at any time. These rules are all due to the fact that the server has a 3 mbps downlink and 300 kbps uplink. 3) Do not edit files that you do not own. Yes, UNIX users mess up and sometimes do not set the correct permissions on their files. However, this does not mean you should take advantage of that :) 4) Don't worry too much about using too much CPU, memory or diskspace. There's lots of it, so use it liberally :) However, if you use resources to the point of diminishing the quality of service for the other users significantly, this is grounds for a warning and/or account deletion. 5) Have fun, don't be afraid to explore, and be sure to login more than once so that other's may "write" you or "talk" you without interupting your lynx or vim session :) Also, before you start communicating with another user using one of the above- mentioned programs, be sure to select a terminal that is sitting idly at a bash prompt so that you don't interrupt someone's lynx, vim, ftp, etc.... However, if someone does shamelessly splatter your session with text, you can simply do a "control-l" to refresh your terminal. And don't try to be sneaky by using screen to hide your logins from 'w' and 'who'. If you are logged in, always keep at least one terminal visible. 6) Don't give your password out to anyone. If someone wants to use the server, tell them to email me and I'll give them an account if I feel they are worthy ;) Any comments, suggestions, questions and/or threats may be directed to me, Korey Pelton [peltkore at peltkore dot net].
